My main interactions with Merlin/Merlyn have been in the Once and Future King books and the Disney movie based on the first book in that series, The Sword in the Stone. And from those, what I really remember is Merlin turning Arthur into various animals to try and help him learn about life and war. If our world leaders had Merlins, things would be much better. Merlin’s not running around zapping people with magic or playing wizard sports.
On the other hand, he’s not such a great guy in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, a book I have read, and of which I have forgotten about 98%. I think that brings it back to unread status.
In my song, he’s a carnivorous species that hunts wizard cubs.
